AI Image Upscaler

Idyllic's AI image upscaler enlarges an image up to 8K and rebuilds fine detail, so a small photo or an AI render holds up as a print, a poster or a desktop wallpaper. Upload a photo or upscale an image you created in Idyllic, then download the high-resolution version. Upscaling up to 8K is included on the Pro and Max plans.

How it works

Three steps from idea to finished image.

  1. 1

    Choose the image

Upload a photo or open an image you made in Idyllic. Finish your edits and crops first.

  2. 2

    Upscale it

Upscale up to 8K. The AI rebuilds detail like hair, fabric and texture instead of just stretching pixels.

  3. 3

    Check and download

Zoom in on faces, text and edges, then download the high-resolution file for print or screen.

What upscaling is for

  • Printing: posters, canvas prints, framed art and merch.
  • Wallpapers: 4K desktop and high-resolution phone backgrounds.
  • Product photos: sharp, zoomable images for online stores.
  • Small or old photos: enlarge low-resolution pictures and scans.
  • AI art: take a generated image from screen size to print size.
  • Design work: covers, ads and posters that need room to crop.

Resolution and print size guide

  • 4K is 3840×2160 pixels and 8K is 7680×4320 for a 16:9 image.
  • For prints viewed up close, aim for about 300 pixels per inch (PPI).
  • An 8×10 in print needs about 2400×3000 px at 300 PPI.
  • A 16:9 8K image prints at about 25×14 in at 300 PPI.
  • Large posters viewed from across a room look sharp at around 150 PPI, so they can go bigger.

What AI upscaling can and can't do

Resizing stretches existing pixels, which looks soft and blocky. AI upscaling predicts the missing detail, so edges and textures stay crisp at the larger size. It can't recover information that was never captured, so a very blurry face comes out sharp but may look slightly different.

Tips for the sharpest result

  • Upscale last, after every edit and crop.
  • Start from the best copy you have, not a screenshot or a compressed download.
  • Clean up first: remove noise, stamps or stray objects with Edit with words.
  • For AI images, generate at the aspect ratio you'll print, so you don't crop away pixels later.
  • Check faces and small text at 100% zoom before sending a file to print.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AI image upscaler free?

Idyllic is free to start with 3 images a day and no credit card. Upscaling up to 8K is included on Pro ($17.50/month billed yearly) and Max ($33.25/month billed yearly).

Can I upscale an image to 4K or 8K?

Yes. You can upscale up to 8K. For reference, 4K is 3840×2160 pixels and 8K is 7680×4320 for a 16:9 image.

Can I upscale my own photos?

Yes. Upload a photo or a scan, or upscale an image you made in Idyllic.

Is an upscaled image good enough to print?

Yes, that's the main use. Aim for about 300 pixels per inch at your print size; an 8K image covers prints of roughly 25×14 inches at that density, and larger posters that are viewed from a distance.

Can AI upscaling fix a blurry photo?

It sharpens soft and small images well by rebuilding detail. Very blurry areas get believable new detail rather than the original, so check faces and text before you print.

What's the difference between upscaling and resizing?

Resizing stretches the existing pixels, so the image looks soft and blocky. AI upscaling predicts the missing detail, so edges, hair and textures stay crisp at the larger size.

Should I upscale before or after editing?

After. Make your edits, crops and fixes first, then upscale the final version so you only do it once.

Can I use upscaled images commercially?

Yes. Paid plans include a commercial license for what you create, and private mode keeps your images out of the public gallery. For uploaded photos, make sure you own the rights.
